Dr. Lisa M. Schoene

Sports Podiatrist, Certified Athletic Trainer, Author, Lecturer, Teacher, and Mentor.

Dr. Lisa M. Schoene, a sports medicine specialist, and Certified Athletic Trainer has practiced sports medicine since the 1980s while in college and then again in the early 1990s as a Podiatrist, all in the Chicago land area with Gurnee Podiatry and Sports Medicine Associates.

Being a Podiatrist and Athletic Trainer is a rare combination which she shares with only a few physicians in the country. Her experience includes working with numerous Olympic, professional, semi-professional and elite athletes, including runners, triathletes, dancers, skaters, football players, gymnasts, soccer, basketball, and volleyball players.

She was one of 17 podiatrists to work at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta GA, and has worked at, and treated Olympic hopefuls at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

She also worked the 1994 World Cup games in Chicago.

For many years, she has performed physician coverage for numerous races, and walks, including the Chicago Marathon, Triathlons, and the Avon Breast Cancer walk. For 5 years she worked with the semi-professional Football team the Chicago Panthers, and the yearly post collegiate “Chicago Shoot-out” Lacrosse tournament.

Dr. Schoene has served as the Podiatric consultant for DePaul University's athletic department since 1992 treating the "Blue Demon" athletes from many teams.

For over 18 years, she has consulted for and performed Podiatric medical show coverage for many dance companies in Chicago including the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, Hubbard Street Dance Company, Inaside Chicago Dance, Ballet Chicago, Elements Contemporary Ballet, Chicago Tap Theater, Talent Forum, Evanston Dance Ensemble, as well as many other companies and studios in the Chicago area. She lectures and gives in-services on proper foot care, nutrition, and lower extremity prevention strategies to many dance companies and studios.

Dr. Schoene has written numerous articles for Podiatric and non-Podiatric publications, and has authored 2 chapters on dance injuries, in the textbook "Athletic Footwear and Orthoses in Sports Medicine" First addition and Second addition. She has a faculty appointment at the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. She regularly lectures to the Podiatric Medical students in the orthopedic department on many Sports Medicine topics. For many years, Dr. Schoene has trained medical and podiatry students, residents and fellows from various sports medicine MD programs and Podiatric programs at both of her offices.

Professional Achievements

In addition to her Athletic Trainer certification, she is board certified in Surgery, and Orthopedics, Dr. Schoene is a Diplomat of the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine and is board certified with the American Board of Podiatric Surgery.

She is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, a Fellow of the American College of Foot & Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine and of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine.

She has been on many committees and boards of Podiatric and non-Podiatric organizations through the years as well.

Experience with News Media

Dr. Schoene has an extensive background in broadcast media. She has served as a consultant for several Chicago network news programs and is a media spokesperson for the American Podiatric Medical Association. She has done news segments on NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox News, and local cable programming. She was guest on "Meet the Masters" and has received mentoring awards through Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine.

She regularly lectures, nationally and internationally on many different topics, including sports medicine. She has been interviewed by many national newspapers and magazines including People Magazine, LA Times, Chicago Tribune, as well as Real Simple Magazine, Health magazine, Outdoor magazine, Outside magazine, Podiatry Today, and the APMA magazine.
