About Erin Smielewski, DPM, FACFAOM
Dr. Erin M. Smielewski joined Gurnee Podiatry and Sports Medicine Assoc. as an associate in 2010. Born and raised in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, she graduated with honors from Illinois State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. She then received her podiatric medical degree from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine while graduating at the top of her class.
In addition, she completed her 3-year podiatric surgical residency at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago, where she served as chief resident. She is board qualified in podiatric surgery for both forefoot and rearfoot and is certified to perform ankle arthroscopy. While in residency she participated in combined rotations with Midland Orthopedics, MacNeal Hospital, Mercy Hospital wound clinic, and outside podiatric clinics. Through these institutions, she has completed rotations in Podiatry and Podiatric Surgery, Orthopedics, Internal Medicine, Emergency Room Medicine, Infectious Disease, Radiology, Endocrinology and Wound Care, to name a few.
Dr. Smielewski has extensive experience and training from Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in General and Diabetic Wound care, Limb Salvage, and Infectious Diseases. She is committed to providing the highest level of care for patients of all ages with foot and ankle pathology by possessing excellent communication and diagnostic skills that allow her to make a diagnosis and tailor patient specific treatment plans. She is seeing patients at the Park City location and is currently accepting all new patients.
Dr. Smielewski is on staff at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital and Hawthorne Surgical Center. She has professional society memberships with the Illinois Podiatric Medical Association, American Podiatric Medical Association, American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, and the American College of Foot and Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine. Dr. Smielewski is a Diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Medicine. In addition she stays current with her continuing medical education requirements. Dr. Smielewski participates in local health fairs, community days, and has been a speaker with the local diabetic support group.
She lives in the northwest suburbs with her husband and two children.
